Speed Up ERP Integration By Adding Lanes

To support multiple quoting and shipping use-cases, your shipping system will need to support different types of ERP integration. For example, the Pacejet Freight Quote process in NetSuite is activated by a button that invokes a real-time data read (from orders, estimates, item fulfillment, purchase orders, etc ...) which then transmits shipment details to carriers for quoting and rate shopping. However, when the NetSuite batch tools are used to generate a large number of fulfillments at once, Pacejet uses a different integration approach to receive data in batches as it is processed by the NetSuite ERP. Both of these methods work great and zip along especially fast with the 5x speed boost of Pacejet 15, but sometimes the 6 to 10 seconds it can take an ERP to process an update after a shipment is just too long. What next?

Asynchronous ERP Updates in Pacejet 15.2

Pacejet 15.2 implements a new integration technology that supports something called Asynchronous ERP Updates. Implemented as a new application setting, the Async feature allows ERP updates to move into background processing immediately after a shipment transaction is completed. The update task gets it's own "freeway lane", can chug along as fast as possible or slow as necessary (depending on ERP speed), freeing up users to move on to the next task. Users will see a message "update scheduled" instead of "update complete" but otherwise the transaction results and downstream processes are exactly the same and not affected by the increased parallel processing.

Background Processing Means No Delays

Growing operations who are increasingly using high-efficiency scan-and-ship or similar workflows will see the most benefit from the new Asynchronous ERP Update feature. Pushing 10 seconds of ERP update wait time into a background process for 400 shipments per day saves at least an hour of time, so cost savings can add up. And because ERP updates are no longer directly synced with the shipping transactions but are NOT deferred for large batch updates later in the day, time-dependent processes like shipment confirmation notices, invoicing, or EDI are not delayed. Updates are still processed as transactions are completed but users are just not delayed waiting on the ERP to accept and record shipping results.

Will It Work with My ERP?

The new Asynchronous ERP Update technology is independent of ERP systems, so users running NetSuite, SAP ByDesign, and other systems can benefit. Individual ERP systems may have some limitations based on connectivity restraints controlled by the ERP provider or on-premise software configurations. Evaluate your specific system and configuration when the new setting becomes available to determine specific performance characteristics.
